Spring Cleanup
April is "Litter Prevention Month"
Join the 42nd Annual County-wide Spring Cleanup - Postponed Until Further Notice
Local volunteers have removed over 7 million pounds of trash from County roadsides and illegal dump sites during the annual Spring Cleanup over the last 4 decades. Each year volunteers give their time and energy to collect trash in areas where it would have otherwise polluted the environment. Litter collected as part of the 42nd Annual County-wide Spring Cleanup may be disposed of for free at the Jolly Pond Transfer Station located at 1204 Jolly Pond Road on March 27, 2020 between noon-4 p.m. and on March 28, 2020 between 7 a.m.-4 p.m.

Will Barnes Day Recognition Event
Willis G. Barnes served on the Clean County Commission from 1999-2016 where he spearheaded many programs including the Annual Countywide Spring Cleanup, the Clean Business Forum and multiple outreach events throughout the community. In addition to Will’s contributions to the Clean County Commission, he volunteered with Parks & Recreation, American Legion Post 1776, the James City Ruritans and the Williamsburg Land Conservancy. Will’s daily motto was to work together for the good of the community by "doing good and giving back." Following his passing in early June 2016, the Board of Supervisors proclaimed June 14 as "Will Barnes Day" in James City County.
The Clean County Commission sponsors a volunteer recognition event on June 14 where they recognize their Spring Cleanup volunteers and hope to inspire others to follow in Will’s footsteps.
