The Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code requires a building permit (or a mechanical, electrical or plumbing permit) anytime a building or structure will be altered, constructed, converted, demolished, enlarged, moved, improved or repaired; or in a flood zone. Some examples include: decks, pools, hot tubs, crawlspace and replacement of gas fire appliances.
On the International Code Council website, you are able to search the desired subject, and by clicking on the Free View button you will have access to its content.
The Building Safety & Permits Division is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code. This includes the review and the issuance of building permits and conducting the required building inspections. Applications for such permits can be made to the Building Safety and Permits Division or at Satellite Services.
The Board of Adjustments & Appeals members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors and hears appeals regarding decisions made by the County Building Official.
